St. Matthias Church (Episcopal/Presbyterian) Waukesha seeks a Music Director to serve as a member of the church staff and counsel to the pastor on all matters of music. Duties will primarily include, but are not limited to, leading and directing the choir through rehearsals and Sunday services as well as playing the organ and/or piano accompaniment. In consultation with the pastor, they will assist in planning and coordinating worship services, successfully integrating traditional and contemporary Episcopal and Presbyterian hymnody with seasonal liturgies, preaching themes, and creating a music program that inspires routine involvement of congregants. The ideal candidate will fulfill both choir leadership and organ/piano roles, but consideration will be given to those who have experience in only one specialty as a split role between two people.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead music in one Sunday worship service per week and special services such as Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week services, etc.
- Play Organ and/or Piano at services.
- Lead and direct choir at services weekly from September through May.
- Schedule and lead weekly choir rehearsals from September through May.
- In consultation with the pastor, plan service music at least one month in advance, including special and seasonal liturgies.
- Oversee maintenance of organ and piano
- In consultation with the pastor, establish musical standards for weddings and funerals.
- Communicate directly with the pastor, treasurer and vestry regarding budgetary needs.
- Submit a yearly suggested budget for the music department.
- Maintain and inventory music library.
- Arrange for supply musicians as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Salary and Time Off:
- Part time salaried (Exempt).
- Four paid Sundays off, timing to be determined with pastor.
- Salary commensurate with experience,
- Payroll schedule is every two weeks.
- Retains first right of refusal to play at weddings, funerals and other special services for additional compensation.
Program Description
The St. Matthias (Episcopal/Presbyterian) Church music department has a choir of 8-14 individuals of various ability, whom love to sing together and meet from September through May. We have an extensive music library, which is fully electronically catalogued. Instruments on the premises include our Wangerin-Weickert 1920 Pipe organ (See stop list below), our 1923 Chickering Grand piano, two sets of antique handbells, and a set of hand chimes. Parish members assist worship from time to time on violin, guitar, flute, cello and trumpet.
