The UW-Whitewater Baroque Ensemble will present a concert of music from the Renaissance through the Baroque era. Student will be performing in a historically informed style using viols (six-stringed instruments with a sweet and delicate tone) and sackbuts (precursor to the modern trombone), as well as Baroque string instruments.
The Baroque strings will perform Rosenmuller’s Sonata Decimal à 5 and selections from Jean-Féry Rebel’s Tombeau de Lully.
The sackbuts will play Martin Luther’s Chorale, “Vom Himmel hoch da komm’ich her” (From Heaven to Earth I Come), as well as works by Hassler and Marini.
The viol consort will play works of Gibbons, Joaquin des Prez, Tallis, and Jenkins.
In a new collaboration the sackbut and viol consort will join forces to play a chorale by Gabrieli.
