Parish Service & Mission
In 2006 the spiritual journey of the St. Matthias youth included a mission trip to Juarez, Mexico to assist Gateway Mission Training Center in building a home for an impoverished family. Significant fund-raising and generous support from the parish community was needed to make it happen, but the Lord blessed their efforts, so that $20,000 was raised to make the trip possible (and very successful!)
In our vocation and ministry, may we truly and devoutly serve You, O Lord.
During June 2007, 24 adults and teens traveled to Gulfport, Miss. to assist God’s Katrina Kitchen. This vital Church Army ministry helps locals continue to recover from the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The trip included a stop in Memphis to visit the National Civil Rights Museum, as well as a chance to dialogue and worship with fellow Christians in Memphis, most of whom are living and ministering in the inner city.
Deliver us O Lord, in our various occupations, from the service of self alone, that we may do the work you give us to do, in truth and beauty and for the common good...
