Welcome . . .
Our vision is to grow in membership, ministry and mission.
St. Matthias was founded in 1844 by the missionary Fr. James Lloyd Breck. This was a time of extraordinary growth in the Episcopal Church, in response to Bishop Jackson Kemper’s call to establish an Episcopal presence in the Missionary District of the Northwest.
St. Matthias church building was consecrated by Bishop Kemper on June 28, 1855. That’s more than just a legacy; today we continue to share in the Spirit of God’s missionary presence and purpose in our world. As the Lord said to the people of Israel, so his word speaks to us today: "tell my people to go forward"
(cf. Exodus 14:15b).
Our mission is clear to us.
As joyous believers in Jesus Christ, we at St. Matthias are a welcoming parish where His Good News is proclaimed in everything we do. Inspired by prayer, we are called to grow in the knowledge and love of God through excellence in Eucharistic liturgy, music, Christian formation, pastoral care, fellowship and community outreach. We seek to form disciples by spreading the passion of the Holy Spirit that resides within our community of faith with emphasis on incorporation of children and youth.
Our vision is that our parish will grow as a model of leadership in the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee and as a beacon of Christ’s message of salvation in the heart of Waukesha County.
I invite you and welcome you to St. Matthias Church whether you are just visiting or searching for a church home. Join us for worship on Saturdays at 5 p.m., on Sundays at 8 a.m. or (during the summer) at 9:30 a.m. (and during the school year) at 10:15 a.m. God bless you.
