Giving back in recognition of what God has given us is a central part of Christian life. We can give back in terms of those things God gifts us in our lives:
Time
We can volunteer our time to the church and other organizations in order to give back. St. Matthias has many ministries both within and without the church that work to enrich our world and our worship.
Talent
We can share our God-given talents with others in order to better the world. St. Matthias needs people with various talents to keep our worship and program functional.
Treasure
Since all we have comes from God, we are asked to return a portion for uses other than our own. The Biblical standard is a tithe, or 10% given to the church and other charities. Many are unable to make this committment and instead commit to work towards the tithe by increasing their giving every year. Giving to the church usually takes the form of a pledge of a certain amount towards the ministry of the church. This allows the church to budget for coming years. Even more importantly, it becomes a spiritual discipline for the pledger, no matter what the amount is. Pledge amounts are not disclosed to anyone other than the bookkeeping staff - the rector does not generally know pledge amounts. To make a pledge, please contact the treasurer.
An excellent way to help support the church is to use SCRIP. You buy scrip, which comes in the form of gift cards to major merchants and the merchants give a portion back to the church. Use your regular living expenses to help further our mission!
